Hoy se presenta la Conferencia Invitada "Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimetry: Review and Perspective", al iniciar la RUIM 2008

Hoy miércoles 3 de diciembre inicia la Reunión Universitaria de Investigación en Materiales 2008, en el Auditorio del Departamento de Física (Edificio 3F, Planta Baja). Dentro del Programa de hoy, iniciando a las 11:40 AM, se presentará la Conferencia Invitada: "Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimetry: Review and Perspective", a cargo de Eduardo G. Yukihara, Profesor en el Departamento de Física de la Oklahoma State University. El Grupo de Oklahoma es uno de los grupos que mayor impacto tienen en el desarrollo de la Dosimetría de Estado Sólido, por lo que la Connferencia resulta de gran interés para estudiantes y profesores de la Universidad de Sonora, que tiene entre sus lineas de investigación más activas la de luminiscencia estimulada en sólidos.

Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimetry: Review and Perspective

Although luminescence techniques have been used for decades in detecting and quantifying ionizing radiation, the last decade has seen a shift in emphasis from Thermoluminescence (TL) to the Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) technique. The all-optical nature of the OSL technique has motivated researchers to develop and explore applications ranging from monitoring of personnel working with ionizing radiation, to monitoring of astronauts and microbiology experiments in space. This talk introduces the OSL technique and reviews recent advances in this area, with emphasis on the research developed at Oklahoma State University. Applications to be discussed include neutron, space, and medical dosimetry. Finally, we highlight the main challenges for the future investigations.
